Workplace Happiness And Employee Commitment: Insights From Non-Academic Staff At Delta State University, Nigeria

Abstract

This study investigated the relationship between workplace happiness and organizational commitment (OC) of non-academic staff currently working at Delta State University Abraka, Nigeria. The study was guided by the following specific objectives: determine the relationship between compensation and OC, ascertain the relationship between workplace environment and OC and evaluate the relationship between work-life balance and OC. The survey research design was employed in this investigation. The study’s population comprised of all non-academic staff of Delta State University Abraka, Nigeria. 156 employees were selected using a convenient sampling technique. A structured questionnaire was employed as a tool to collect data from the respondents. The data analysis techniques employed in this study were descriptive statistics, correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis. The findings of the study established that compensation and work-life balance as indicators of workplace happiness have a positive and significant effect on OC. On the other hand, workplace environment has a positive and insignificant effect on OC. The study concluded that the indicators of work place happiness adopted in this study are a key stimulator of OC. Based on the result of this study, it was recommended that management should offer a competitive financial and non-financial rewards to boost employees morale, cultivate a positive and inclusive work environment where the employees feels valued and encourage flexible work arrangement to promote work-life balance
